Hunting Season is Here, Part 2 :

Deer Hunting at Night :
For the most part, in the United States Deer Hunting at night is illegal. The general exception is by farmers who often shoot deer at night for eating their crops.

Note : There is plenty of equipment available to civilian shooters that allow hunting at night.

Hunting Season is Here, Part 1 :

In most parts of the USA Deer Hunting Season has started or is about to start.
Are you ready for hunting season ?
In The United States Deer Hunting Season can be divided into three hunting periods. These are controlled by local state laws and vary dramatically from one state to another :
1) Archery (Bow and Arrow).
2) Black Powder (Muzzleloader Rifle Shooting).
3) Regular Big Game Rifle Shooting.
Note : Always check your local hunting laws for times and dates allowed and type of hunting permitted. Also remember to get your hunting license.

Good Luck and Safe Hunting.

Central Arms 20 Gauge, 2 3/4-Inch, Sawed Off (Modified) Single Barrel Shotgun with Hammer:

Recently I acquired this shotgun from a friend that swapped it for some work I did for him. He did not modify the shotgun himself and purchased it locally.

I decided to post this legally sawed off 20-Gauge Shotgun that has been cut down to demonstrate how not to modify a firearm. If you notice the barrel has been shortened but within the legal limit. The rear wood stock was cut off exposing the bolt that holds the butt stock to the metal frame. A hole was left in the rear butt stock and the weapon is unfinished and in cutting it down, whoever did the modifications cracked the wood. The shotgun needs to be reblued and the mechanical operation is questionable at best. It's obvious purpose is for home defense.
See pictures below.

I will repair and refinish this shotgun and it will be done properly. I would never fire any weapon in this condition.

Note: This is an off brand shotgun an in unmodified original but current bluing and mechanical condition would only be worth about $35.00. Cut down the way it is the value is about $20.00. Don't be duped into buying something like this modified by someone who does not know what they are doing. A properly modified shotgun refinished and brought to like new condition can be worth several hundred dollars if not more.

The Tesla Gun:

Thank you ' Mr. Electricity ' for your submittal.
This device that looks like a ray gun, but actually works, was invented by Thomas Edison’s great rival; Nikola Tesla, who was a Serbian inventor. It’s basically a stun gun, like a Taser. There’s an electrical charge, you aim it, it fires and your opponent goes down stunned. This ray gun / stun gun was also in the TV SyFy series, Warehouse 13. The gun believed to have been invented in the 1920's is often a forerunner for many sci-fi movies using a ray gun.

Question from Viewer : Coach Shotguns

Q) I see on your Gun blog the term coach shotgun used. Where does that term come from and what exactly does it mean?

A) The term ' Coach Shotgun ' also known simply as a coach gun actually is derived from old western movies whereby the stagecoach had a driver and a armed guard who carried a small compact double barrel shotgun. This was referred to as ' riding shotgun. '  This term is believed solely to be created by Hollywood Westerns and most historians believe the real term for the person sitting next to the stagecoach driver holding the shotgun was referred to as the ' Shotgun Messenger. '
The coach gun generally had 18 inch barrels placed side by side, two triggers, and two hammers. The term coach gun was coined around 1858 when Wells Fargo began regular stagecoach service throughout western towns.
Ironically the shotgun holder was there to protect the strong box and mail from highway robbers, not to protect the passengers. The stagecoach often would have a lever action Winchester or Henry Rifle in the boot under the stagecoach driver's box. This was more for fending off Indian attacks and wild game where a close in short barreled shotgun just wouldn't do. The Coach Shotgun was excellent for the cowboy old wild west frontier dealing with robbers.
This style of shotgun was also made famous in Tombstone Arizona when Doc Holliday used a 10-Gauge Coach Shotgun to kill Tom McLaury during the Gunfight at the OK Corral, October 26, 1881.
Today modern cowboy shooters love their Coach Double Barrel Shotgun with Hammers. They also work extremely well for home defense. Many Doomsday Preppers and Survivalist also like the short barrel coach shotguns.
Today these guns are also used for hunting quail, grouse, rabbit, small wild pigs, and snakes.
I own two and they are fun to shoot.
