Stoner 63

About the Stoner Assault Weapon System:
The Stoner 63 is an American modular weapons system designed by Eugene Stoner in the early 1960s. It was produced by Cadillac Gage and used in very limited numbers in Vietnam by members of the United States Navy Seals and U.S. Marines.
The first working prototype was chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO and completed in 1962. It was designated the Stoner M69W (for no other reason than when turned upside down it reads the same, symbolizing Stoner's vision of a fully invertible receiver). A second prototype called the Stoner 62 was fabricated before the team decided to focus on the promising new 5.56x45mm small caliber high-velocity cartridge, as it appeared the new round was gaining mainstream military approval. At that time the weapon became known as the Stoner 63. No more than 200 guns were manufactured at the Costa Mesa facility before production was transferred to the Cadillac Gage plant in Warren, Michigan. The weapon is covered under U.S. Patent 3,198,076

P-45 Liberator

The FP-45 Liberator was a pistol manufactured for the United States military during World War II for use by resistance forces in occupied territories.

The pistol had its origins in the US Army Joint Psychological Committee and was designed for the United States Army in 1942 by the Inland Guide Lamp Manufacturing Division of the General Motors Corporation in Dayton, Ohio. The army designated the weapon the Flare Projector Caliber 45 hence the designation FP-45. This was done to disguise the fact that a pistol was being mass produced. The original engineering drawings label the barrel as "tube", the trigger as "yoke", the firing pin as "control rod", and the trigger guard as "spanner". The Guide Lamp Division plant in Anderson, Indiana assembled a million of these weapons. The Liberator project took about 6 months from conception to end of production with about 11 weeks of actual manufacturing time. The plant employed about 300 workers.

Design:
The FP-45 was a crude, single-shot pistol designed to be cheaply and quickly mass produced. The Liberator had just 23 largely stamped and turned steel parts that were inexpensive and easy to manufacture. It fired a 45 caliber pistol cartridge from an un-rifled barrel. Due to the un-rifled barrel, maximum effective range was only about 25 feet. At longer range, the bullet would begin to tumble and stray off course. Because of the low quality, it was nicknamed the "Woolworth gun."

Field Use:
The Liberator was shipped in a cardboard box with 10 rounds of 45 caliber ACP ammunition, a wooden dowel to remove the empty cartridge case, and an instruction sheet in comic strip form showing how to load and fire the weapon. Extra rounds of ammunition could be stored in the pistol grip.
After production, the Army turned the Liberators over to the OSS. A crude and clumsy weapon, the Liberator was never intended for front line service. It was originally intended as an insurgency weapon to be mass dropped behind enemy lines to resistance fighters in occupied territory. A resistance fighter was to recover the weapon, sneak up on an Axis occupier, kill or incapacitate him, and retrieve his weapons.
The weapon was valued as much for its psychological warfare effect as its actual field performance. It was believed that if vast quantities of these weapons could be delivered into Axis (German) occupied territory, it would have a devastating effect on the morale of occupying troops. The plan was to drop the weapon in such great quantities that occupying forces could never capture or recover all the weapons. It was hoped that the thought of thousands of these weapons in the hands of the citizens of occupied countries would have a disastrous effect on enemy morale.
In reality, the OSS never saw the practicality in mass dropping the Liberator over occupied Europe, and only a handful were ever distributed. Only the Chinese and resistance forces in the Philippines received the Liberator in any significant quantity. The Liberator was never issued to American or Allied troops and there is no documented instance of the weapon being used for their intended purpose.
The original delivered cost for the FP-45 was $2.40 per unit.

USAF X-51A WaveRider

X-51 with Scramjet Engine
Underdevelopment since 2005 this missile has a variety of uses from spy plane to dropping huge payloads even nuclear capability.
Unlike conventional weapons planes have to be flown long distances and take hours to get to their target. This new technology delivers a payload anywhere on earth within 60 to 90 minutes and can be launched from the United States. The rocket is reusable making it cost effective. See more details below...

The WaveRider aboard a B-52 Bomber (photo Dec 11, 2009)

X-51 developed by the United Sates Air Force (USAF)-
The Boeing X-51 is a scramjet aircraft for hypersonic flight (Mach 7, around 8,050 km/h). Testing has all ready begun on the X-51 WaveRider program and is a consortium of the U.S. Air Force, DARPA, NASA, Boeing and Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne because it has multiple sue potential.
The program is managed by the Propulsion Directorate within the United States Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL).
The X-51 is a descendant of earlier efforts including the Advanced Rapid Response Missile Demonstrator and the liquid hydrocarbon-fueled scramjet engine developed under the USAF’s HyTech program. The scramjet flight test vehicle was designated X-51 on 27 September 2005.
The X-51 is carried aloft by a B-52 bomber and then launched with the aid of a solid rocket booster.
DARPA had viewed X-51 as a stepping stone to Blackswift, a planned hypersonic demonstrator that was canceled in October 2008.
Since many rockets that carry nuclear warheads like those being developed by Iran are solid fuel they can be fueled in an hour. The X-51 is so quick it can respond and destroy such rockets before they are launched.
Nothing has ever been developed that flies so fast within the earth's atmosphere.

The Deer Gun, A Single Shot Pistol

Designed and developed by the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) for clandestine operations.
The Deer gun also referred to as the 'Dear Gun', was a successor to the Liberator pistol developed by the CIA. The single-shot Deer Gun was supposedly intended for distribution to South Vietnamese guerrillas as a weapon against North Vietnamese soldiers invading the South.

Weapon Design-
Weight: Five Ounces
Length: 5-inches
Muzzle Velocity: 1050 Ft/s
Cartridge (ammo): 9 x 19mm Parabellum
The Deer Gun was made of cast aluminum, with the receiver formed into a cylinder at the top of the weapon. The striker protruded from the rear of the receiver and was cocked in order to fire, and a plastic clip placed there to prevent an accidental discharge, as the Deer gun had no mechanical safety. The grip has raised checkering, was hollow and had space for three 9 mm rounds, as well as a rod for clearing the barrel of spent cases. The Deer Gun lacked any marking identifying manufacturer or user, in order to prevent tracing of the weapons, and all were delivered in an unmarked polystyrene box with a series of pictures depicting the operation of the gun, as well as three 9 mm rounds. A groove runs down a ramp on top for sighting. The barrel unscrews for loading and removing the empty casing. A cocking knob was pulled until cocked. The aluminum trigger featured no trigger guard.
The Deer Gun was loaded by removing the barrel and placing a 9 mm cartridge in the chamber. The striker was then cocked, and a small plastic clip placed around the striker to impede the forward motion of the striker to prevent accidental discharge. The barrel was then screwed back onto the receiver. The gun was fired by removing the plastic clip, placing it on the barrel where it would become the sight, and pulling the trigger. At this point the user would take the victim's equipment if opportunity presented itself, and then flee. Later, the user would reload the gun by unscrewing the barrel and ejecting the spent case with the provided barrel rod, and follow the outlined procedure.

History and Disposition:
One production run of 1,000 Deer Guns was made in 1964 as an initial run. Unfortunately for the Deer Gun, the scenario predicted did not occur. Rather than the Vietnam war being a small clandestine war, it became a full scale war where the Deer Gun would not be as useful as foreseen. Some Deer Guns were evaluated in Vietnam, but the fate of the rest is unknown. Some sources have stated that all were destroyed, but some have been discovered on occasion. Most likely they are in the CIA Weapons Vault awaiting use someday.

Rhino Revolver Update from Manufacturer

Just got this email and write-up from Chiappa Firearms, the manufacturer of the Rhino Revolver:
Dear Steve, attached is the story of the Rhino. It is brand new, I prepared it today and will use it for journalists and customers, site publication etc. in the next months.
It is an absolute preview (in fact the English has not been revised yet :-D ), I hope you will like it.
Have a nice day,

RHINO – THE STORY OF A REVOLUTIONARY REVOLVER AND OF THREE MEN

“Who was born with a talent, and to express a talent, finds in this his most beautiful existence”. With these words from Goethe we wish to remember affectionately our friend Emilio and give homage to his genius, which gave him so much joy during his life and much honor, we are sure, will tribute him in the future.

When the name “Rhino” was chosen in 2002, nobody could imagine that it would be perfect to reflect not only its solidity and compact shape, but the bullheadedness of a rhino. With an unstoppable charge, Rhino revolver was able to overcome difficulties which seemed to be insurmountable. This is its story.

In summer 2000 Emilio Ghisoni had already sold his company Ma.te.ba with all the relevant patents, and works in his new company The.ma. producing kneaders. His passion for firearms is all but extinguished though, and he is always anxious to be again part of the world which had given him a place in the history of firearms for his innovative projects, such as Mtr8, 2006, autorevolver and other semiautomatic pistols with “co-axial” feed.
What Ghisoni has in mind is a new revolver with 7 chambers, with a new mechanics and a low barrel, as was his style. He needs to be financed for this project, so he submits the idea to his friend the architect Cudazzo, inventor of the FAR system.
Antonio Cudazzo likesthe project but objects that it would be a direct competitor with other Ma.te.ba products, as the concept is very similar to former models developed by Ghisoni, which no longer belong to him. Cudazzo is nevertheless very keen on the idea of producing an innovative firearm, and after a few days he cames back to Ghisoni, with a project modified according to his previous reflections on ergonomics and a compact shape for revolvers. He proposes to Ghisoni some drawings for a revolver for personal defense.
Ghisoni is pretty perplexed on all the issues brought up by his friend, and in particular he is very skeptical on the clasp of this weapon, which is pushing the point of contact between the top of the palm and the hilt very far forward, well beyond the hammer.
The animated discussion between the two technicians is in a circle: even the drawings are not enough to explain a concept which Cudazzo thinks very simple, but is in fact miles away from what seems universally accepted.
Cudazzo does not give up, he carves a model in wax and presents it to Ghisoni a few days later. The wax model is like Cupid’s arrow, Ghisoni falls in love with the idea, and invests all his ability in the development of the new project, jealously preserving the wax model in his fridge. It is summertime, and the model risks to melt in the heat and for being handled continuously by Ghisoni himself, who had mainly doubted its manageability.
An agreement is immediately found between the friends: Cudazzo finances the project, owns the patents and is responsible for sales through his company “Far League”, founded with his friend Maurizio Piccolo exclusively on the Rhino project; Ghisoni takes care of the development and production through his company The.Ma.
The concept of the Rhino revolver represents the apex of the joint genius of Ghisoni and Cudazzo, and develops day by day thanks to their steady confrontation, cooperation and community of ideas. In 2006 the first working samples are ready.

Unluckily Emilio falls seriously ill and dies on April 24th, 2008.
Far League is now proprietor of projects and patents, but is missing the essential support of Ghisoni and must look for a supplier who can be up to the expectations and may adequately develop and industrialize the new revolver. This task is all but easy, and more than one attempt for cooperation with producers of firearms ends unsuccessfully.
By the end of the year, finally the turning point: Cudazzo has an initial encounter with Rino Chiappa, proprietor of the Chiappa Group and a fine technician. Chiappa immediately sees the brilliance of the Rhino concept, believes in the project and becomes excited by this completely new challenge (the Chiappa Group specializes in fine replica firearms and breech loading arms). Chiappa Firearms is the ideal production partner: the factory in Azzano Mella (in Northern Italy) is managed with impeccable organization, equipped with cutting edge machinery which guarantees machining with minimum tolerance (all Rhino metal parts are manufactured in the factory, milling solid blocks of steel).
With his great technical skill and experience, and an extraordinary ability to translate an idea on the paper into an industrial production layout, Chiappa created the first prototypes at record time. He furthermore gives new impulse to the project: together with Cudazzo the 2” barrel revolver is designed, plus the 3”, 4”, 5” and 6” versions for target shooting are newly invented.
Rhino, from ingenious idea, becomes a real firearm.

The prototypes shown at the IWA in Nurnberg in April 2009 stir much curiosity, but the first real revolvers produced in October 2009 cause a sensation. Experts are dumbstruck: the firearm has an outstanding precision, handiness and fluidity while shooting, recoil is strongly reduced, the realignment on the target is meteoric due to lack of flip-up, so subsequent shots are exceptionally rapid.

The rhino is still in full charge, because its goal is extremely ambitious: revolutionize the very concept of revolver.

ERGONOMICS
Defense revolvers, due to their reduced size and weight, are unpleasant to use. The hilt is often very thin, the flip-up is strong as the fulcrum is relatively high. The negative consequence is that those who use this type of handgun for personal defense, mostly neglect training.
Rhino gives a new dimension to revolver ergonomics: its compact shape is not comparable to any other handgun of the same caliber and class. The cylinder has a hexagonal section, so you will always have a flat surface against your body, for maximum comfort. A handy pin lets you open the cylinder easily with one hand. The grip of the revolver is made of wood or neoprene, which allow for a steady grip even if your hands are sweating; sporting versions are available with three grip sizes to perfectly fit the hand and the style of the shooter.

PERFORMANCE
Instinctive shooting
With any handgun, you need to take the right position: bring the gun in front of your face in order to look into the direction of the front sight, finding an alignment with the rear sight. This alignment - real or ideal in case the rear sight is missing - forces you to rotate the wrist upwards – a position which, though acquired and “naturalized” with training, is very uncomfortable.
Rhino’s barrel is the ideal prolongation of your index finger. This allows you to be in shooting position in no time, and pointing the weapon becomes as natural as pointing your finger, while your wrist remains virtually straight.

A dramatic reduction of recoil
As the wrist is almost straight, the recoil is discharged on the straight arm. To give an explanation according to the laws of physics, the arm of the lever is very small, and this nearly eliminates the “dynamic moment” which follows the shot in all handguns. Basically, the dynamic moment becomes a static moment, nullifying the amplification of the reaction to recoil which generates on the top of the hand.

Lack of flip-up effect
The strong pressure generated by a powerful caliber usually causes a flip-up effect after shooting (dynamic moment), which is proportional to the lever angle created by the high position of the barrel and consequent angle of the wrist. The flip-up effect has two negative consequences: one is the physical strain, both when you bear the knock and when you counterbalance it, pushing your hand with equal power into the opposite direction to regain the initial position. The second is the time you lose while your arm and hand are travelling up and down, which is obviously taking time on the sequence of shots.
Rhino revolver requires a wrist angle near to zero, thus abolishing flip-up and related consequences: subsequent shots on a target are all in the center, and do not tend to slide upwards.

Trigger pull
The trigger pull system of all contemporary revolvers is an evolution of the systems designed in the 19th century, which were based on a manual adjustment of each single weapon. By modern revolvers, the impossibility of manual adjustment highlights all the conceptual defects of the old mechanics. Rhino is the first revolver with a really modern trigger system, designed for a serial, industrial production.
The cocking of the single action is made through a pin and not though the hammer, whose position is very low (like no other handgun). This pin moves a lever which never interferes with the trigger pull and goes back in its original position after cocking the hammer. All the devices designed on the whole trigger pull system allow for great fluidity, lightness and steadiness when shooting.

Safeties
Additional to all the standard safeties of modern revolvers, Rhino features brand new safeties. To avoid accidental pressing of the hammer, the handgun in single action mode is blocked and shooting is prevented. Premature shot in case the cylinder has not completed its rotation is prevented by a pin which is connected to the cylinder and functions at the same time as trigger stop. The rotation of the cylinder is not operated by the “rotation star” in the extractor, but by pins of tempered steel fixed in the cylinder itself – this solution avoids that the rotation be subject to the wear and tolerance of the extractor. Finally, the cylinder lock is linked to the trigger and prevents shooting if the cylinder is not blocked in the correct position.

Concealability
Rhino’s unusual shape makes it difficult to recognize as a weapon. Even when it is carried in a pocket of light fabric, it is not easy to identify it as a revolver.
The trigger system designed by Ghisoni is an absolute innovation allowing for a very compact revolver shape. Thanks to its mechanics in particular, Rhino is 1,5 cm shorter than any revolver of equivalent caliber and barrel length.
Rhino is perfect to wear at armpit, belt, ankle.

MATERIALS
The frame is made of Ergal, an excellent, high resistance light alloy. Its special feature is the breech bottom made of steel and mounted on the frame through a dovetail insert.
Grips are interchangeable on all models, and are made of neoprene or wood.

Military Issue Mission MPK12-Ti Knife

Emailed from a recent purchaser and collector of knives and swords...

About This Knife, extracted from the manufacturers website and furnished by the email provider to this site (not verified by me):
The MPK-Ti was designed to meet the requirements of the Navy SEAL's and has also been adopted and issued by the United States Marine Corps Recon personnel. A titanium, light weight, non magnetic, non corrosive, and multi functional knife that can be used in all environments from the tropics to the arctic.
The MPK is made from a high strength beta titanium alloy which has the disadvantage of being difficult to grind and machine, and higher in cost when compared to Ti-6Al-4V. Wear resistance, however, is superior and the alloy can be hardened to Rc 44-46 while maintaining usable ductility. At this level, edge retention is good. Furthermore, corrosion will not dull the edge.
THE HANDLE-
The MPK handle is injection molded in one piece, over a full length tang, and is textured and grooved for superior gripping. The handle is made from a high toughness Hytrel reinforced with the ballistic fiber Kevlar (Hytrel and Kevlar are registered trademarks of DU PONT). It is resistant to the effects of heat and most oils, fuels, and solvents. A metal guard and butt cap are not used. This ensures the handle is electrically insulated from the blade.
THE MPK - HOLDING AN EDGE-
The titanium alloy used for the MPK is heat treated to a range of Rc 45-47. At this hardness, resistance to abrasion is exceptional. This will be demonstrated when the edge is resharpened. Mission Knives has found that a diamond coated round sharpener works best for this purpose. The MPK will not corrode or dull under any conditions in sea water, making it ideal for a high use knife in that environment. Extended field tests have substantiated that the V-ground blade has a durable edge which is not susceptible to wear or chipping. The rounded serrations are superior for cutting a variety of materials.
THE SHEATH-
Hytrel is also the material of choice for the sheath. Kevlar is added to offer the best combination of toughness, hardness and low noise signature. The sheath is designed for a close fit to the blade, preventing movement of the knife and eliminating a potential noise source.
The sheath is designed to be worn on either side of the hip on a military utility web belt. Since the MPK will be used on various utility belts, it is also configured for ease of installation without having to disturb other items. Two pairs of tie-down slots were recently added to convert the sheath into a load bearing unit. Optional ballistic nylon carrying pouches can be strapped and secured onto the sheath by running Velcro straps through these tie-down slots.

Scorpion Flashlight - UV Ultra Violet Blacklight

My second post of today.
I am posting some of the miscellaneous items people send me.
This was emailed to me last night.

Great for campers, hikers, fisherman, and hunters in the southwest where there are scorpions.
Ultra Violet 21 LED Blacklight Flashlight Torches. You can also easily detect pet urine in the carpet to help clean stains and odors that can't be seen without one of these lights. They are the same blacklights that bouncers use at clubs to check ID's and hand stamps. These are really cool and fun to use. They are only 4" tall so they fit easily in a pocket or purse.
They work best when it is dark out. They are excellent at finding scorpions in the house/backyard. The scorpions glow when you shine this light on them or anywhere near them. But these are perfect for many other things as well. You can also use them for credit card, cash (currency) detection, automobile air condition fluid leaking (freon) detection, glass break detection, minerals hunting, police use it for scanning the crime scene, urine and bodily fluid detection, and more.

Your Gun Rights in America are in Trouble

A New California Handgun Law Puts Ammo on Lockdown
From - an article in Law and Daily Life....
Among the numerous bills signed into law was one restricting the sale of handgun ammunition in California. Here are some quick facts about the new legislation:
The law will require licensed dealers to keep ammunition behind the counter.
Gun dealers can only sell less 50 rounds per month to a particular buyer.
Gun dealers must record information about the ammunition sale including: date, buyer's birth date, name, address, driver's license, thumbprint, signature; amount, brand, and type of ammunition sold; salesperson it was sold by.
Internet and mail-order suppliers are banned from selling ammunition directly to California state citizens
It will be illegal for anyone subject to gang injunction to purchase handgun ammunition.
The law will take effect in 2011
Will the restrictions save lives?
The legislation was introduced to track criminals who use handguns to commit crimes. Similar pilot programs instituted in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Oakland, and Sacramento has reportedly helped to keep bullets away from children as well as from dangerous criminals and has led to arrest of felons and gang members.
According to Daily News Los Angeles, Sacramento authorities reported that in the year since similar local ordinance was enacted, nearly 200 who were not legally entitled to own or possess firearms or ammunition were apprehended by authorities.
How will it affect state gun dealers?
Gun dealers in California have mixed reviews about the new law. Many feel that it will just force ammunition sales out-of-state, to places like Oregon a state which has fewer restrictions and less paperwork. However, on balance, the state law provision that bans online sales may go to benefit state dealers.

My Comment:
Don't kid yourselves, Liberals want to take your guns away or prevent them from operating. Lets face it a gun without ammo is useless unless you're gonna to use it like a rock and throw it at the criminal intruder.
Defend your rights in America and elsewhere, anyone who wants to ban or inhibit gun ownership by private law abiding citizens should be kicked out of office.
So go to the polls on election day, and vote their useless Liberal Socialist asses out.
